India’s Shubman Gill has dethroned former Pakistan captain Babar Azam to claim the No.1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings just before the Champions Trophy 2025 opener in Karachi. Gill’s recent century against England in Ahmedabad played a crucial role in his rise to the top.

Babar Azam has now dropped to second, while India’s Rohit Sharma retains third place. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell (fifth), Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka (eighth), and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan (15th) have also gained ground. Pakistan’s Salman Agha made a significant jump, climbing 24 spots to 48th.

In the bowling rankings, Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana has overtaken Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan as the No.1 ODI bowler. Theekshana’s stellar performances against Australia helped him secure the top spot, despite Sri Lanka not competing in the Champions Trophy. India’s Kuldeep Yadav has also moved up to fourth place.

Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi remains the No.1 all-rounder, while New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner has gained one spot to sixth. With the Champions Trophy 2025 set to begin, these rankings add further excitement as top players battle for supremacy.
