Sri Lanka has Defeated India in ODI Series for the First Time Since 1997

For the first time since 1997, Sri Lanka won an ODI series against India, defeating Rohit Sharma and his team by 110 runs in the third ODI in Colombo on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka clinched the three-match series 2-0, having drawn the first game and won the second by 32 runs.

India’s batting lineup crumbled as they were all out for 138 in 26.1 overs while chasing a target of 249. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer for India with 35 runs off 20 balls. Virat Kohli also fell short, scoring 20 runs off 18 balls.

Sharma’s and Kohli’s dismissals led to a middle-order collapse, with Rishabh Pant (6), Shreyas Iyer (8), and Axar Patel (2) all falling to Sri Lanka’s spin bowlers. Washington Sundar made 30 off 25 balls before being dismissed, leaving India at 138 for nine. Kuldeep Yadav was out on the first ball of the 27th over, sealing Sri Lanka’s historic series victory.

Dunith Wellalage led Sri Lanka’s bowling attack with a five-wicket haul, supported by Jeffrey Vandersay with two wickets.

Sri Lanka, batting first, scored 248 for seven in their 50 overs, thanks to a strong start from Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando. Nissanka made 45 off 65 balls, and Fernando fell just short of a century with 95 off 102 balls. Kusal Mendis added 59 runs, and Kamindu Mendis contributed 23 runs towards the end, setting a challenging target for India.
