The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has officially appointed Peru’s Nolberto Solano as the new head coach for both the Pakistan senior national football team and the under-23 team. Solano’s appointment brings a wealth of experience to the role, as he has been a key part of Peru’s football scene in recent years.
Solano, 48, is known for his impressive career as a player and coach. He was part of Peru’s coaching staff during the 2018 FIFA World Cup and also played a crucial role in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. His extensive knowledge of international football is expected to help improve Pakistan’s national teams. Additionally, Solano holds a FIFA Pro License, which further strengthens his credentials. He has also previously coached several clubs, making him a well-rounded figure in the football world.
George Castanheira Joins as Assistant Coach
Alongside Nolberto Solano, Argentina’s George Castanheira will take on the role of assistant coach. Castanheira brings valuable experience from his time with the Venezuelan national team and his work with various football clubs. He is also an author, having written several books on football, showcasing his deep understanding of the game. Together, Solano and Castanheira aim to build a competitive team that can represent Pakistan on the international stage.
PFF’s Executive Committee Approval
The appointments were approved by the PFF Executive Committee, with a majority of seven out of 13 members voting in favor. Although six members opposed the decision, the majority vote allowed for the appointments to move forward. The PFF is expected to finalize contracts with both coaches later this week, with an initial tenure of one year.
This marks an important step in the development of Pakistan’s national football teams, as both Nolberto Solano and George Castanheira are set to lead the charge towards success.
