Islamabad United Clinch HBL PSL 9 Title

In a thrilling last-ball encounter, Islamabad United emerged victorious against the in-form Multan Sultans to claim their third HBL PSL title at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. Despite Multan Sultans posting a subpar total of 159/9, the match came down to the wire as Islamabad United chased down the target with Imad Wasim’s composed knock at the death, securing victory on the final delivery.

Imad Wasim played a pivotal role with both bat and ball, claiming a remarkable five-wicket haul to restrict Multan Sultans from posting a larger total. His performance earned him the distinction of being the first player to achieve a five-wicket haul in a PSL final. Usman Khawaja contributed with a solid 57 off 40 deliveries, while Iftikhar Ahmed showcased his brilliance with an unbeaten 32 off just 20 balls.

During the chase, Martin Guptill’s quickfire 50 off 32 deliveries and Babar Azam’s steady 30 off 22 provided the foundation for Islamabad United’s successful run chase. Despite Khushdil Shah’s efforts with the ball, taking 2/21, Islamabad United managed to clinch victory in the final moments of the game.

With this triumph, Islamabad United secured their third PSL title, adding to their previous victories in 2016 and 2018. Their consistent success throughout the tournament’s history has established them as the most accomplished team in the league.

In a display of solidarity, Islamabad United players waved Palestinian flags after their victory, performing a victory lap around the ground with the flags on their backs to show support for Palestine.
