Lionel Messi will miss Argentina’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia due to an ankle injury.
Messi, who has been absent from Inter Miami since the Copa America final, will be replaced by Roma’s Paulo Dybala, who has been recalled to coach Lionel Scaloni’s squad.

Dybala, who last played for Argentina in March 2023, may make his return to the international arena. Additionally, Argentina will be without Angel Di Maria, following his retirement from international football.
As the reigning World Cup champions, Argentina currently leads the South American qualifiers for the 2026 tournament, set to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The top six teams in the 10-nation table will secure automatic spots in the finals. Argentina will play Chile at home on September 6 and then face Colombia in Barranquilla on September 10.
