Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has emerged as a strong contender for the role of head coach of the national Test team, even as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains engulfed in internal confusion. Misbah, who previously served as both head coach and chief selector from 2019 to 2021, is said to be actively pursuing the position and has already been in touch with the board.
Sources suggest that Misbah is particularly concerned about the unclear direction of the current hiring process. Despite interviews and discussions with top officials, the board has not issued any formal communication about appointments or plans for the Test side’s future.

The uncertainty has not only affected Misbah but has also created unrest within the national selection committee and coaching staff. A source revealed that despite a detailed meeting between selectors and PCB officials, no clear answers were provided, leaving many within the system in the dark.
Nevertheless, the PCB has asked the selection committee to continue operations as usual, even as confusion continues to cloud the leadership structure of the red-ball team.
