The second ODI between India and England, held in Cuttack, was marred by a floodlight failure that halted play, giving Pakistani fans an opportunity to mock Indian social media users. The incident took place when India, chasing a target of 305, was 48 without loss in 6.1 overs, and one of the floodlight towers malfunctioned, causing a delay.
The lights went out after the first ball of the seventh over, plunging the stadium into darkness. Players were seen waiting on the field before retreating to the dugout. The match was delayed for about 18-20 minutes before resuming, but the exact cause of the malfunction remains unknown. This disruption soon became a talking point on social media.

Pakistani fans, who had previously been on the receiving end of criticism from Indians over lighting issues at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, took the opportunity to troll Indian fans and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Many fans humorously pointed out the irony, with some calling it “karma paying back.”
On the other side, several Indian fans expressed their displeasure, calling out the BCCI for not ensuring proper infrastructure during such high-profile games. The floodlight issue led to further discussions about the need for improved facilities in stadiums.
This ongoing three-match ODI series is part of both teams’ preparation for the 50-over Champions Trophy, set to begin on February 19 in Pakistan and Dubai.
