The Government of Pakistan has set up a high-level committee headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to advise on Pakistan’s participation in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup hosted by India.
Pakistan’s participation in the most anticipated cricket event remains in doubt due to the historic conflict between Islamabad and New Delhi and Pakistan’s security concerns.
The 50-over World Cup is due to start in October this year, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said sending teams to India would require government approval.
Last week, the governing body of cricket asked for Pakistan’s approval to participate in the tournament in a letter to Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif. In consideration of this request, Prime Minister Shebaz set up a high-level panel to decide whether the national team should be sent to India. Citing sources, Geo News said a committee chaired by FM Bilawal would make recommendations on all issues related to the World Cup in India, and the Pakistan visit would be decided on the basis of those recommendations. I told him. The final recommendations will be submitted to the prime minister for approval, he said.
The commission, chaired by FM Bilawal, is responsible for Home Affairs Minister Rana Sanaura, Justice Minister Azam Nazir Talal, Information Minister Mariyum Aurangzeb, Interstate Coordinating Minister Esan-ul Rehman Mazari and National Security Agencies. and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In a letter written through the Interprovincial Coordination Ministry (IPC), PCB asked the government to reconsider the expected safety of the five host cities offered to Pakistan for World Cup matches.
The ICC announced the schedule for the 2023 World Cup last week, with a thriller match between Pakistan and India scheduled for Oct. 15 in Ahmedabad. The following 5 venues are marked for the Pakistan match:
October 12 – vs Qualifier in Hyderabad
October 15 – vs India in Ahmedabad
