Saim Ayub to Receive Immediate Treatment in London After Injury

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has made the decision to send young opening batter Saim Ayub to London for immediate treatment after he sustained a right ankle fracture during the second Test against South Africa at Newlands. Naqvi personally contacted Ayub to ensure him of full support during his recovery, with sports orthopaedic specialists in London scheduled to examine the 22-year-old.

Ayub’s injury, which occurred while fielding on the opening day of the Test, is expected to keep him out of competitive cricket for up to six weeks. As a result, the PCB has taken the necessary steps to send Ayub to London for treatment, with the hope that he will recover in time for the upcoming Champions Trophy. PCB Chairman Naqvi expressed concern over the injury but emphasized that Ayub remains an invaluable asset to Pakistan’s cricket.

Azhar Mahmood, Pakistan’s assistant coach, will accompany Ayub to London on the next available flight, ensuring his well-being throughout the treatment process.

Opportunity for Fakhar Zaman’s Return

The injury to Ayub creates a possible opening for Fakhar Zaman to make a return to the national team. Ayub had been Pakistan’s first-choice opener across all formats but will now be sidelined for the near future. With Abdullah Shafique already out of the squad due to poor form, Fakhar Zaman, who has previously been a regular opener for Pakistan, could step in to fill the void in the opening position.

Ayub’s absence provides an opportunity for Zaman to regain his spot in the national squad, potentially strengthening Pakistan’s top order as they prepare for future tournaments.
