Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique played a remarkable unbeaten 160 on the third day of the second Test against the West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval. His outstanding innings helped Pakistan take a 43-run first-innings lead after a strong batting display.
Earlier in the match, the West Indies were bowled out for 344. In reply, Pakistan posted 387 runs in their first innings. Abdullah remained not out until the end, carrying his bat through the entire innings.
The 26-year-old faced 323 balls during his marathon knock. He hit 15 fours and three sixes while showing great patience and control. This was his sixth century in Test cricket and one of the finest innings of his career.
Abdullah’s score also earned him a place in Pakistan cricket history. He became only the fifth Pakistan batter to score 150 or more against the West Indies in the Caribbean.
The list is led by Hanif Mohammad, who scored a record 337 in Bridgetown in 1958. Wazir Mohammad made 189 in the same year, while Majid Khan scored 167 in 1977. Saeed Ahmed also reached 150 in 1958. Abdullah’s unbeaten 160 now ranks fourth on that historic list.
Pakistan resumed the post-lunch session on 333 for six. The visitors added another 54 runs before losing their final four wickets and finishing on 387.
Abdullah received useful support from Sajid Khan during an important seventh-wicket partnership. The pair added 59 runs together, helping Pakistan build a valuable lead. Sajid scored 30 runs from 72 deliveries and struck four boundaries before he was caught behind off Jayden Seales.
After Sajid’s dismissal, Abdullah continued to anchor the innings. He then shared a 17-run partnership with Ali Usman. Ali contributed 10 runs from 21 balls before he was dismissed by Jomel Warrican in the 115th over.
Warrican was the most successful bowler for the West Indies. He claimed six wickets for 112 runs in a long spell of 46 overs. Shamar Joseph took two wickets, while Jayden Seales picked up one.
