Pakistan gained a strong position on the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Young opener Debutant Awais impressed with an unbeaten half-century to guide Pakistanโs response.
The visitors ended the day at 179-1 after Bangladesh were bowled out for 413. Debutant Awais remained unbeaten on 85 and looked comfortable throughout his innings.
Another newcomer, Abdullah Fazal, also supported him well. He stayed not out on 37 at stumps. The pair built an unbeaten 73-run partnership for the second wicket.
Pakistan started their innings confidently after a disciplined bowling performance earlier in the day. Mohammad Abbas led the attack and played a key role in restricting Bangladesh.
Debutant Awais and Imam-ul-Haq gave Pakistan an excellent start with a 106-run opening stand. Their partnership frustrated Bangladeshโs bowlers on a pitch that had earlier helped seamers.
The young left-handed batter showed patience and maturity during his innings. He completed his maiden Test fifty with calm and controlled batting. Imam-ul-Haq also contributed an important 45 runs before being dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
After Imamโs wicket, Debutant Awais continued his steady performance and formed another valuable partnership with Abdullah Fazal. Both young batters handled the final session confidently.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan wrapped up Bangladeshโs innings shortly after Lunch. Mohammad Abbas delivered an outstanding bowling display and finished with five wickets for 92 runs.
Shaheen Afridi also performed strongly and claimed three wickets. Hasan Ali and Noman Ali picked up one wicket each.
Bangladesh resumed the day at 301-4 with Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das at the crease. Mushfiqur scored a fighting 71 from 179 deliveries before Shaheen Afridi dismissed him after Lunch.
Abbas then removed Ebadot Hossain to complete his five-wicket haul. Bangladeshโs lower order briefly resisted through Taskin Ahmed, who played an aggressive innings of 28 from 19 balls.
Despite the late resistance, Pakistan managed to bowl Bangladesh out for 413 in the second session.
The opening day had belonged mostly to Bangladesh. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a brilliant 101, while Mominul Haque narrowly missed a century after making 91.
However, Pakistan responded strongly on Day 2. The impressive batting display by Debutant Awais placed the visitors in a commanding position heading into the third day of the Test match.
