Swiatek Breezes Past Alexandrova to Reach Grand Slam Quarter-Finals

Iga Swiatek breezes past Russian 13th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3, 6-1 to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam on Monday. The 24-year-old world number two showed exceptional focus and control throughout the match.

Swiatek’s dominant win on Louis Armstrong Stadium made her the youngest woman since Maria Sharapova in 2005 to reach at least the quarter-finals of all four Grand Slams in a single season. The victory marks Swiatek’s 13th major quarter-final appearance.

The match began with an early exchange of breaks, but Swiatek quickly found her rhythm. A misfired net attempt by Alexandrova in the seventh game allowed Swiatek to claim the opening set comfortably.

From there, the 2022 New York champion took full control of the second set, never letting her opponent recover.

After the match, Swiatek was seen sending a quick message to her coach, Wim Fissette, arranging a short practice session. β€œI would say the intensity and focus helped me a lot,” Swiatek said. β€œIn the beginning, the pace was fast, but I found my rhythm and stayed in my bubble. I’m happy with the quality of my game.”

Swiatek breezes through on different surfaces, showing versatility beyond her claycourt specialty. The six-times major winner now aims to become the first woman since Serena Williams in 2012 to win both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in the same year. β€œI can play well on every surface if I feel confident in my game and my mind,” she added.

Up next, Swiatek will face either American eighth seed Amanda Anisimova, whom she defeated 6-0, 6-0 in Wimbledon, or Brazilian 18th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia. Fans will be eager to see if Swiatek continues her flawless run and strengthens her bid for another major title this season.
