Former Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul has confirmed that he is in early discussions with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding a potential role as the national team’s pace bowling coach. The talks come amid reports that current coach Andre Adams may not complete his contract, which runs until February 2026.
Speaking to local media on April 7, Gul clarified that while discussions are underway, nothing has been finalized. “We are in talks, but nothing is confirmed yet,” he said, adding that any agreement would depend on mutual understanding and finalization of terms.

Andre Adams, who took on the role in 2023, is expected to continue through Bangladesh’s upcoming home Test series against Zimbabwe. However, BCB insiders suggest that concerns over his performance could lead to an early exit.
Gul, a veteran of 47 Tests and 130 ODIs, has held multiple coaching positions since retiring, including stints with the Afghanistan national team and the Pakistan side. Other names reportedly being considered for the role include Shaun Tait, Allan Donald, and Ottis Gibson.
Meanwhile, the BCB has extended head coach Phil Simmons’ tenure through to the 2027 ICC World Cup and reached a verbal agreement to retain senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin, solidifying their coaching staff ahead of a busy cricketing calendar.
