West Indies Reach Super 8s With Thrilling 13-Run Win Over New Zealand

In a Group C encounter at Tarouba, the West Indies emerged triumphant against New Zealand, securing a 13-run victory and place in Super 8s that eliminated the Kiwis from the T20 World Cup 2024.

This win, marking their third consecutive victory, guaranteed the co-hosts a spot in the Super 8s, a significant achievement after failing to advance beyond the main round in the previous edition held in Australia.

Sherfane Rutherford was the standout performer of the match, delivering an exceptional batting display. His unbeaten 68 off 39 deliveries, featuring six sixes and two fours, propelled the West Indies from a challenging position of 76 for 7 in 12.3 overs to a competitive total of 149 for 9.

The West Indies bowlers then rose to the occasion, restricting New Zealand to 136 for 9 in 19 overs. Gudakesh Motie, with his left-arm spin, produced an impressive spell, claiming 3 wickets for 25 runs.

However, it was pacer Alzarri Joseph who truly excelled, dismantling the New Zealand batting lineup with figures of 4 for 19.

Despite a brave effort from Glenn Phillips, who scored a brisk 40 off 33 balls, New Zealand fell short of the target, confirming their exit from the tournament.
