Adobe Photoshop Web Launches with AI Tools

Adobe Photoshop Web Launches with AI Tools

After two years in beta testing, Adobe Photoshop is now available on the web as a simplified online version of the popular desktop photo editing app. This web version offers key features like generative fill and generative expand, powered by the Adobe Firefly generative AI model. These features are available for commercial use and allow users to manipulate images by providing text-based descriptions in over 100 languages.

The web-based Photoshop retains many of the same features and tools as the desktop version but features a redesigned layout for a more streamlined user experience. It also includes the Contextual Task Bar, introduced earlier this year in the desktop Photoshop app, which suggests relevant steps to enhance workflow. Adobe plans to add additional desktop features such as the patch tool, pen tool, smart object support, polygonal lasso, and more in the near future.

One of the significant advantages of the web-based Photoshop is its collaborative capability. Users can invite others to collaborate on projects, even if those users don’t have an active Photoshop subscription. Collaborators without a subscription can view and comment on files.

However, it’s important to note that the web-based Photoshop is not available for free. It is included in Adobe’s paid plans, starting at $9.99 per month. Adobe had previously expressed a desire to offer a free version of Photoshop, but according to Ashley Still, Adobe’s senior vice president of digital media, there are no immediate plans for a freemium offering. New users can explore Photoshop on the web through free interactive demos and in-app tutorials available on Adobe’s website.
