Adobe has introduced Project Indigo, a cutting-edge computational photography app designed to deliver high-quality, natural-looking photos on iPhones. The app is free to download and currently compatible with iPhone 12 Pro models and newer, though Adobe recommends using it on an iPhone 15 Pro or later for optimal performance.
Developed under Adobe Labs by renowned mobile imaging expert Marc Levoy—who previously helped revolutionize the Google Pixel camera—alongside senior scientist Florian Kainz, Project Indigo represents Adobe’s most ambitious move into mobile photography. Notably, the app does not require an Adobe login, allowing users to start capturing immediately.

Project Indigo uses computational photography techniques such as photo burst and image stacking to enhance dynamic range and reduce noise, delivering what the developers describe as a “natural, SLR-like” aesthetic. The app includes full manual controls over focus, ISO, shutter speed, and white balance, catering to both photography enthusiasts and professionals.
According to a detailed technical blog from Adobe, Indigo is not only a standalone tool but also a platform for testing features that may be integrated into future Adobe products. These include experimental tools like reflection removal, advanced portrait modes, and potential video capabilities. An Android version is reportedly in development.
Project Indigo underscores Adobe’s commitment to merging AI and mobile imaging to create a seamless camera-to-editing experience for a broad range of users.
