Apple has launched the second-generation AirTag after a five-year wait, introducing significant improvements to its popular item tracker. The new AirTag focuses on solving user issues while keeping the same price and design as the original.
The updated AirTag, commonly called AirTag 2, comes with enhanced connectivity, longer Bluetooth range, and better Precision Finding. Apple has equipped it with a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, similar to what is used in the iPhone 17 series and the latest Apple Watches. This upgrade allows users to locate their misplaced items up to 50% farther than before, making tracking faster and more accurate.
Apple has also addressed complaints about the AirTag’s sound. The new AirTag’s speaker is 50% louder, making it easier to hear when locating lost items. Additionally, the device now integrates with Apple Watch Series 9 and later, allowing users to find their AirTags directly from their watch.
Another new feature is improved support for Share Item Location. This allows AirTag users to temporarily share the location of an item with third-party airlines. Apple claims that over 50 airlines support this feature, which helps reduce baggage delays and lost luggage incidents.
Despite the major internal upgrades, Apple has kept the familiar design. This ensures that all existing AirTag accessories remain compatible with the second-generation device.
Apple has priced the new AirTag at $29 for a single unit and $99 for a four-pack. Customers also get free engraving when purchasing the tracker.
With enhanced range, louder speaker, and better tracking features, the AirTag 2 is expected to become a popular choice for Apple users looking to keep track of their belongings more efficiently. Fans of the device will appreciate that Apple focused on improving core functionalities without changing the overall look or usability.
