Albania has imposed a one-year ban on TikTok following the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old boy last month, allegedly over a social media argument. Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the decision after discussions with parents and teachers, citing concerns about TikTok’s role in promoting violence among minors.

“This isn’t about our children. It’s about society and platforms like TikTok taking them hostage,” Rama stated. The ban, effective early next year, will be reviewed based on TikTok’s response and global developments.
Critics, including opposition leader Ina Zhupa, have condemned the move as an attack on free speech and democracy.
