ISLAMABAD โ Amazon is preparing to launch satellite broadband services in Pakistan next year under its Project Kuiper initiative, offering high-speed internet access nationwide.
A meeting between Shiza Fatima Khawaja, Pakistanโs Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunications, and the Amazon Project Kuiper team highlighted the importance of this collaboration for Pakistanโs digital growth. The Ministry of IT and Telecommunications confirmed that the partnership will help expand connectivity across the country.
Project Kuiper, part of Amazonโs Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite program, is expected to begin providing services in Pakistan by the end of 2026. The initiative represents a multi-billion-dollar investment aimed at offering high-speed internet worldwide, particularly targeting areas with limited or no connectivity.
The Federal Minister welcomed Amazonโs plan, noting that Project Kuiper will support the governmentโs vision of a โDigital Pakistan.โ She said the project will promote digital inclusion and strengthen the countryโs internet infrastructure, ensuring that citizens in remote and rural regions gain access to reliable online services.
Amazonโs Project Kuiper consists of a constellation of 3,236 satellites, designed to deliver broadband speeds of up to 400 Mbps. The initiative will use affordable satellite terminals, making it easier for individuals and businesses across Pakistan to connect to fast internet.
Experts believe the arrival of Amazonโs satellite internet could revolutionize Pakistanโs digital landscape, enabling remote education, telemedicine, e-commerce, and other online services in areas previously underserved.
This move by Amazon aligns with global efforts to expand high-speed internet access through satellite technology. Once operational, Project Kuiper could play a critical role in reducing the digital divide in Pakistan and support the governmentโs broader goal of nationwide digital connectivity.
