Apple announced its acquisition of Pixelmator, the Lithuanian company known for developing popular image-editing apps for iPhone and Mac. Founded in 2007, Pixelmator has gained widespread attention for its flagship products, Pixelmator and Pixelmator Pro, which have become competitive alternatives to Adobe Photoshop. The company also offers Photomator, a dedicated photo-editing app.

Pixelmator apps have frequently been featured at Apple events, showcasing their compatibility with Apple’s machine learning and AI capabilities. In 2018, Pixelmator Pro was even named Apple’s “Mac App of the Year” due to its innovative AI-driven tools, including object removal and color enhancement. Pixelmator expressed enthusiasm for joining Apple, noting that their design philosophy has always been aligned with Apple’s.
While no financial details of the deal were disclosed, Pixelmator assured users that their apps would not undergo any significant changes for now. This acquisition highlights Apple’s focus on AI-enhanced photo tools, including the recent launch of its “Clean Up” feature within the Apple Intelligence suite.
