Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series is expected to bring significant camera advancements across its entire lineup, according to early industry leaks and prototype models. With a release anticipated in fall 2025, all iPhone 17 models will benefit from an upgraded 24-megapixel front camera, promising sharper selfies, better low-light performance, and more cropping flexibility.
The iPhone 17 Pro models are poised for the most dramatic camera redesign. Reports indicate that both Pro and Pro Max versions will feature a triple 48-megapixel system—including main, Ultra Wide, and a new Tetraprism Telephoto lens. This telephoto upgrade is touted to allow heavy cropping with minimal detail loss. Notably, the Pro models will also debut a new horizontal rectangular camera bar on the back, replacing the familiar square layout.

Apple is also expected to emphasize video recording in its 2025 marketing push. The Pro models may support 8K video capture, a dual video recording feature, and possibly a variable aperture system, giving users more creative control over their shots. Meanwhile, the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air will feature a single 48-megapixel camera due to space limitations but will adopt a compact horizontal camera bar design.
The base iPhone 17 model will see fewer changes, retaining a similar design to its predecessor with two vertically stacked lenses. While official details remain under wraps, more concrete information is expected when Apple unveils the devices in September 2025.
