China has officially announced that a Pakistani astronaut will join a short-term mission to the Tiangong Space Station, marking a historic moment in Pakistan’s space journey. The decision highlights growing cooperation between the two countries in science and technology.
According to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA), two Pakistani astronauts will undergo training at the Astronaut Centre of China. One of them will be selected for the space mission as a payload specialist, participating in scientific experiments aboard the Tiangong Space Station.
The China Manned Space Agency confirmed that the training and selection process are already underway. The final astronaut will represent Pakistan in a short-duration flight that symbolizes the country’s entry into human space exploration.
This mission follows a major cooperation agreement signed earlier this year between the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and CMSA. The agreement allows Pakistan to become part of China’s manned space program, strengthening bilateral ties in science, innovation, and technology.
Officials said the astronaut selection process began in April 2025. The candidates were evaluated based on strict physical, educational, and technical qualifications. The selected astronaut will join Chinese crew members in conducting experiments that support space science and international collaboration.
Experts have called the development a “giant leap” for Pakistan’s space ambitions. It also reflects China’s growing role as a key partner for developing nations in advanced space research.
