Cloudflare experienced a brief outage on Friday morning, affecting thousands of users and major internet platforms. The disruption occurred between 0847 GMT and 0913 GMT.
The company clarified that the issue was not a cyberattack. Instead, the outage resulted from a change to Cloudflareโs firewall designed to mitigate a recently disclosed vulnerability in React Server Components. React, a popular tool for building user interfaces, had announced a security flaw that could allow unauthenticated malicious code to run on systems.
Following the incident, Cloudflare fixes outage reports began to rise on monitoring platforms. Downdetector showed a peak of nearly 2,000 reports, which dropped to about 120 by 1110 GMT (06:10 a.m. ET). The actual number of affected users may vary, as the tool collates reports from multiple sources.
Major platforms, including Coinbase and Claude AI, confirmed that normal service resumed after the brief disruption. By Friday morning, Cloudflare had fully restored operations, and users could access affected websites and applications without further interruptions.
The outage comes less than a month after a previous Cloudflare disruption prevented access to X, ChatGPT, and other widely used services. The incident prompted a 4.5 percent drop in Cloudflare shares during premarket trading.
Experts note that such outages highlight the risks of relying heavily on a small number of vendors for critical internet infrastructure and security services. Contingency planning and redundancy are increasingly important for organizations to prevent major disruptions caused by single points of failure.
Cloudflare emphasized that its team acted swiftly to address the issue, and normal operations resumed quickly. The company confirmed that it remains committed to ensuring the reliability and security of its services, mitigating risks from potential vulnerabilities in widely used technologies.
Thanks to prompt action, Cloudflare fixes outage within minutes, preventing extended downtime and minimizing disruption for users and clients worldwide.
