Perplexity has expanded its AI-powered Comet browser to Android, bringing most desktop capabilities to mobile devices. Users can now make Comet the default search engine and ask questions across multiple tabs using voice mode. The assistant can summarize information from all open tabs, providing a streamlined browsing experience.
The Android version also includes a built-in ad blocker, enhancing privacy and reducing distractions. Users can monitor Cometโs actions as it performs searches, research tasks, or online shopping on their behalf.
Perplexity announced that further updates are coming soon. Planned additions include a full password manager, quick-action shortcuts for the assistant, and a conversational agent capable of searching across websites and performing tasks autonomously. These features aim to make Comet a versatile AI assistant integrated directly into the browser experience.
This expansion follows the recent desktop update, which improved Cometโs ability to handle complex tasks, such as transferring data from websites into spreadsheets. While Android is the first mobile platform to receive these updates, Perplexity confirmed an iOS version will be available in the near future. Android was prioritized due to high demand from carriers and device manufacturers.
Earlier in 2025, Perplexity partnered with Motorola to preload the Comet browser on its devices. However, it is not clear whether the new Android updates will be included in pre-installed versions.
AI-powered browsers like Comet have been gaining attention from major companies, including OpenAI, Opera, and The Browser Company. Most AI browsers have focused on desktop users, with limited mobile releases. Cometโs move to Android positions it as a competitive alternative to Chrome and Safari.
Security remains a concern. Experts warn that AI-assisted agents, including Comet, could be vulnerable to attacks. Perplexity has acknowledged these risks and emphasized the need for updated security approaches to ensure safe AI browsing.
With Comet on Android, users can experience AI-driven browsing on the go, combining intelligent assistance with familiar browser functionality.
