Google and Apple have warned their employees about potential visa delays that could impact international travel, according to Business Insider.
Law firm memos from BAL Immigration Law (representing Google) and Fragomen (representing Apple) highlighted concerns for employees seeking a visa stamp to re-enter the United States. Both memos advised staff to avoid leaving the country due to longer-than-usual processing times.
The Fragomen memo specifically stated: โGiven the recent updates and the possibility of unpredictable, extended delays when returning to the U.S., we strongly recommend that employees without a valid H-1B visa stamp avoid international travel for now.โ
The caution follows a State Department announcement that U.S. embassies are currently โprioritizing thoroughly vetting each visa case above all else,โ which has contributed to significant visa delays worldwide.
Reports indicate that hundreds of Indian professionals who traveled home in December for visa renewal faced appointment cancellations or rescheduling. New social media vetting requirements have reportedly worsened processing times.
This warning is not the first from tech giants. In September, Google, Apple, and other major tech employers issued similar advisories following a White House directive requiring a $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications.
Employees affected by these visa delays may experience difficulties returning to the U.S., potentially impacting work continuity and project timelines. Law firms emphasize careful planning before international travel and suggest keeping updated with embassy guidance.
Tech companies continue to monitor the situation closely. Google and Apple have not provided additional public comments beyond the law firm memos. Legal experts stress that ongoing visa delays are expected to continue as embassies manage increased scrutiny and evolving procedures.
Industry analysts say these delays highlight broader challenges for global talent mobility, particularly in the tech sector, and urge employees to stay informed before making travel arrangements.
