Google Chrome is rolling out new AI-powered features to enhance user safety while browsing the web. These tools, currently being tested, aim to help users assess website credibility and protect against scams.
One feature, “Store reviews,” uses AI to generate summaries from trusted independent platforms like Trustpilot and ScamAdvisor. These summaries appear in the page info bubble, allowing users to quickly check the reputation of online stores without visiting multiple review sites.

Additionally, Chrome is testing a “Client Side Detection” tool that uses AI to detect scams. This tool analyzes web pages using a large language model (LLM) to assess whether the page aligns with its brand or intent, helping identify potential scams. Importantly, this analysis is done on-device to protect user privacy.
The scam detection tool is available on Chrome Canary, an experimental browser version, and can be manually enabled by accessing the flags menu.
These AI-driven features are part of a broader effort to improve online security, with similar tools being introduced by other tech giants like Microsoft. Google Chrome aims to further solidify its dominance by addressing the increasing threat of online scams.
