Google Photos is gearing up to enhance user interaction with a fresh update that promises quicker and easier facial recognition. Currently in testing with version 7.26 of the Android app, the feature introduces a new row of face thumbnails directly beneath each photo to streamline the identification process.
These thumbnails give users an instant view of all the faces detected in an image without the need for extra taps or swipes. While the current version lacks name labels, tapping on a thumbnail is expected to reveal more details, making it simpler to locate or organize photos by individuals.

Though the update could significantly improve the photo browsing experience, it does come at a cost — occupying additional screen space and potentially crowding out other controls like selection buttons. Google is likely to fine-tune these design elements based on user feedback and image context.
Building on the app’s existing Face Groups feature, this new addition continues Google’s push toward smarter, more intuitive photo organization. However, since the feature is still in its testing phase, users might see further refinements before the full rollout.
