Govt Employees Get New National Cybersecurity Handbook

Govt Employees Get New National Cybersecurity Handbook

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information Technology has issued new cybersecurity guidelines for government personnel.

The guide is designed for employees, officers, officials and technical staff. It covers workers in federal and provincial departments and public sector organizations.

The National Cyber Emergency Response Team of Pakistan (PKCERT) prepared the National Cybersecurity Handbook. The team operates under the Government of Pakistan.

The handbook provides practical advice for safer digital operations. It aims to help Govt Employees prevent cyber incidents during their routine duties.

The guidelines also focus on protecting sensitive government information. They aim to improve the overall security of government systems and digital services.

According to the ministry, the handbook follows Pakistanโ€™s existing cybersecurity framework. It also considers international standards and recognized cybersecurity best practices.

The guidelines are based on national laws, regulations and government directives. They also convert several cybersecurity requirements into simple workplace instructions.

These include the Pakistan Information Security Framework (PISF) 2026. The handbook also covers the National Cyber Security Policy 2021 and CERT Rules 2023.

Other applicable regulations have also been incorporated into the handbook. The objective is to make cybersecurity responsibilities easier for government personnel to understand.

Eight Key Cybersecurity Areas

The National Cybersecurity Handbook covers eight major areas of cybersecurity. It provides recommended practices for protecting government information and digital systems.

The handbook also explains the responsibilities of individual users. This includes the actions expected from Govt Employees while using official digital resources.

The ministry emphasized that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility. Government systems are becoming more digital and increasingly interconnected.

As a result, individual user actions can affect government information security. Poor security practices can impact confidentiality, integrity and availability.

The handbook seeks to reduce cyber risks through practical security measures. It encourages personnel to follow secure practices during daily government operations.

However, the government has clarified that the guidelines cannot guarantee complete protection. Sophisticated cyber threats may still bypass standard security measures.

The ministry said following the handbook can significantly reduce cybersecurity risks. Personnel are therefore encouraged to adopt the recommended practices in their routine work.

The initiative comes as government services continue to depend on digital systems. Stronger cybersecurity awareness among Govt Employees can help protect public information.
