The National Telecom and Information Technology Security Board (NTISB) has issued a cybersecurity advisory to alert Pakistani users about the risks associated with certain browser extensions, which could compromise personal data. The advisory targets popular tools like ChatGPT-4, Gemini for Chrome, and others, warning that hackers may be using them to steal private information.

VPN users and those relying on AI-powered tools are particularly at risk, as hackers are injecting malicious code into these legitimate extensions. Among the compromised extensions are well-known tools such as AI Assistant โ ChatGPT, Bard AI Chat Extension, VPNCity, and VidHelper Video Downloader.
To protect their privacy, the NTISB recommends users:
- Avoid using the affected extensions and seek trusted alternatives.
- Only install browser extensions from reputable sources.
- Regularly update extensions and remove any unused ones.
- Use up-to-date antivirus software and monitor system activity for unusual behavior.
The board urges users to act swiftly to safeguard their data from growing cyber threats.
