Instagram has launched a new feature called “Your Algorithm” that gives users more control over the Reels content they see. The update, currently available in the US, allows users to view, adjust, and personalize the interests Instagram’s AI assigns to them. The company plans to expand the feature to other parts of the app in the coming weeks.
The new tool aims to help users frustrated by repetitive or irrelevant Reels recommendations. First announced earlier this year, “Your Algorithm” is now visible to English-speaking users in the US, with a global rollout expected soon.
To access the feature, users can tap a new icon — two lines with a heart — located at the top-right corner of the Reels feed. This opens a panel showing the topics Instagram’s AI believes match the user’s interests. From here, users can add interests they want to see more of or remove topics they find irrelevant. Instagram says the Reels feed will update accordingly.
For added transparency, users can even share a summary of their algorithm directly to their Instagram Story — a first for the platform. In a statement, Instagram explained: “As your interests evolve over time, we want to give you more meaningful ways to control what you see on Instagram, starting with Reels.”
The company also highlighted that improved AI tools will make recommendations “even more tailored to you.” Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed that global users will see the setting once the staged rollout is complete. Those who do not see the option yet are advised to update their app to access the new feature.
This update comes shortly after reports suggested Instagram was using AI to generate search-friendly titles for some posts, boosting visibility on Google. Instagram has not publicly commented on these reports.
