Durability Test Confirms iPhone 17 Pro Series Vulnerable to Scratches

iPhone 17 Pro Durability Test Shows Scratch Issues

A new durability test confirms iPhone 17 Pro series vulnerable to scratches. Users and reviewers are seeing issues around camera edges. The findings raise concerns despite Apple’s new protections.

Tech reviewer Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything exposed weak points. In his test, the anodized aluminum coating chipped easily on the sharp camera bump edges. Coins and keys caused visible damage. The flat surfaces held up better, but corners suffered.

The test confirms iPhone 17 Pro series vulnerable to scratches especially around sharp corners of the camera plateau. That area lacked curves or chamfers to protect coatings. According to Nelson, Apple may have chosen aesthetics over durability.

Apple’s screen protections like Ceramic Shield 2 did better. Display glass shows better resistance. Scratch levels on the screen need harder tools before damage begins.

Demo units in stores already show wear. Some deep-blue and black models have visible chips after few hours on display. Even MagSafe accessory contact led to visible marks around camera bump.

Why is this happening? Apple used anodized aluminum for frames. The anodizing process forms a hard oxide layer. However, that layer does not stick well at sharp edges. Without rounding, the coating fractures under small stress.

While these scratches are mostly cosmetic, they may affect long-term appearance. Many suggest using a case to protect vulnerable parts. Buyers wanting pristine finish may face frustrations.

Apple has not publicly responded to the β€œScratch-Gate” claims. It remains unclear if future batches will fix the issue. Users who care about aesthetics should consider screen protectors and edge coverage.
