LinkedIn’s AI Writing Tool Falls Flat, CEO Admits Struggle

LinkedIn

LinkedIn’s attempt to boost user content through AI-generated writing suggestions hasn’t landed as expected. CEO Ryan Roslansky revealed in a recent interview that the tool is “not as popular” as he had hoped, sparking conversations around AI’s role in professional spaces.

Roslansky pointed out that the serious tone of LinkedIn — essentially “your resume online” — demands higher content standards. Unlike casual platforms like TikTok or X, missteps on LinkedIn can directly impact career opportunities, making users hesitant to rely on AI-generated help.

While the writing assistant failed to gain traction, LinkedIn is seeing explosive growth in AI interest overall. The CEO shared that job listings requiring AI skills have surged six times in a year, while users adding AI-related skills to their profiles have increased twentyfold.

Roslansky even shared a personal anecdote, saying he uses Microsoft’s Copilot to craft emails to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella — joking that it helps him “sound Satya-smart.” Still, his honesty highlights a key truth: in high-stakes environments like LinkedIn, trust and authenticity remain king.
