Apple has released iOS 26.2, bringing refinements to its Liquid Glass design and multiple functional updates. The Liquid Glass interface, introduced in iOS 26, makes buttons and notifications semi-transparent to mimic optical glass. This design may be preparing Apple devices for future AI-powered smart glasses.
Since its launch, the Liquid Glass look received mixed reviews. Users praised its sleek, modern appearance but reported that some text and icons were harder to read. These concerns prompted Apple to tweak the interface for better clarity and usability.
Leadership changes have accompanied the design updates. Alan Dye, who led the Liquid Glass makeover, recently left Apple for Meta. Stephen Lemay, a longtime Apple designer with expertise in interaction design, has taken over to refine the user experience.
Beyond visual updates, iOS 26.2 introduces several functional enhancements. AirDrop now allows users to generate codes to share files with non-contacts, giving them “known” status for 30 days. This feature is particularly useful for workplace or temporary collaborations.
Several Apple apps also received upgrades. Reminders now supports alarms, Apple News adds a new “Following” tab, and Apple Music provides offline lyrics for downloaded songs. The Podcasts app introduces AI-generated chapters and the ability to link related shows for easier navigation.
Health features have been expanded as well. Apple Watch users will now receive a Sleep Score based on their sleep quality and personal goals, helping monitor overall wellness.
Security remains a key focus for Apple. The company released critical patches across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch to address vulnerabilities exploited in an active hacking campaign.
With iOS 26.2, Apple continues to refine the Liquid Glass design while enhancing app functionality and security. The update balances innovation with usability, showing Apple’s commitment to improving both aesthetics and user experience. Future updates may bring further improvements as feedback on Liquid Glass continues to guide the company’s design choices.
