The chances of social media platform X being restored in Pakistan anytime soon remain slim, as discussions between the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the platform’s foreign management have failed to yield an agreement.
Sources indicate that PTA has decided not to reinstate the service independently unless it receives clear directives from the government or the courts.

PTA officials told SAMAA that despite multiple correspondences, X has refused to register in Pakistan or adhere to local regulations. The regulatory body asserts that the platform’s policies conflict with Pakistani laws, making it impossible to resolve the issue.
The authority further disclosed that X was blocked on February 17, 2024, based on orders from the Ministry of Interior due to concerns over unlawful online content. Although X was repeatedly asked to remove or restrict such content, it did not comply with the requests nor formally appeal for service restoration.
Additionally, PTA clarified that the Ministry of Interior has not issued any new instructions regarding the platform’s reinstatement, leaving its accessibility in Pakistan uncertain for the foreseeable future.
