Meta Eyes Voice Cloning Future With Possible Play AI Acquisition

Meta

Meta is reportedly in talks to acquire voice cloning startup Play AI, signaling a major push to expand its artificial intelligence capabilities. The potential deal, first reported by Bloomberg, suggests Meta is looking to integrate advanced voice technology into its growing suite of consumer tools.

Sources indicate the tech giant is interested in both Play AI’s underlying voice replication technology and its team. The startup, which enables AI-generated human-like voices for services like customer support, has already raised $23.5 million from investors such as 500 Startups, Kindred Ventures, and Soma Capital.

The move would align with Meta’s broader strategy of enhancing its AI assistant with creative features. Recently, the company rolled out video editing tools and chatbot creation features for content creators. Adding voice capabilities would bring Meta one step closer to fully immersive AI tools.

Neither Meta nor Play AI has commented publicly on the reported talks. But if finalized, the deal could place Meta at the forefront of consumer-facing voice AI innovation.
