Meta has paused the international rollout of its smart glasses after strong demand in the United States. The company confirmed the decision on Tuesday. The pause affects plans for several major markets.
Meta had planned to expand its Ray-Ban Display glasses to the UK, France, Italy, and Canada. The rollout was expected to begin early this year. These plans are now on hold due to limited product supply.
According to Meta, demand in the U.S. has been higher than expected. The company said it must focus on meeting domestic orders first. Supply remains tight for what Meta calls a first-of-its-kind device.
In a blog post, Meta explained the situation clearly. Since the product launched last fall, interest has surged. Customer waitlists now stretch well into 2026. This has forced the company to rethink its global strategy.
The smart glasses were developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica. The eyewear combines fashion with technology. Users can take photos, stream content, and interact with an AI assistant. The device reflects Metaโs broader push into wearable technology.
The Ray-Ban Meta glasses have shown early market success. Industry data supports this growth. Meta sold about 15,000 units in the first quarter of availability. This performance gave the product a 6% share of the smart glasses market. The figures were shared by IDC EMEA.
EssilorLuxottica has already reacted to rising demand. The company said last October that it would speed up production. The goal is to support long-term growth in smart eyewear.
Meta also used the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to announce new features. Several updates are coming to the glasses and related devices. One major addition is a teleprompter function. This allows users to read notes while wearing the glasses.
The teleprompter works with Metaโs Neural Band wrist device. Users can scroll text using subtle wrist movements. This feature is aimed at creators and presenters.
Meta is also expanding navigation tools. Pedestrian navigation is now available in four new cities. These include Denver, Las Vegas, Portland, and Salt Lake City. The total number of supported cities has reached 32.
Despite the pause, Meta remains confident in the future of the Ray-Ban smart glasses. The company says it will return to international markets once supply improves.
