Meta, in partnership with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and educational platform EYEYAH!, has launched a new social awareness campaign titled “Is This Legit?” The initiative aims to educate people in Pakistan about common online scam traps through an engaging and interactive experience.
The “Is This Legit?” campaign is part of Meta’s broader Asia-Pacific (APAC) effort covering over 15 countries. It focuses on promoting safer digital behavior and protecting users from fraud across online platforms.
Educating Users About Online Scams
The campaign highlights seven major scam types — romance, shopping, impersonation, investment, job, account hacking, and messaging scams. Through gamified and interactive content, users can learn to spot suspicious signs and red flags associated with these online frauds.
Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, praised the collaboration and said that such initiatives strengthen Pakistan’s efforts toward a safe and informed digital environment. He added that “Is This Legit?” continues PTA’s and Meta’s shared mission to promote digital literacy and protect citizens from cybercrimes.
Meta’s Commitment to Online Safety
Dania Mukhtar, Head of Pakistan Public Policy at Meta, said that Meta is committed to keeping its online community safe by proactively identifying and removing scammers. She noted that scammers frequently change their tactics and target multiple platforms, making awareness campaigns like “Is This Legit?” essential.
Mukhtar emphasized the importance of user education, stating that informed users are better equipped to recognize and avoid scams. She also thanked PTA for supporting the campaign and helping to spread its message across Pakistan.
Promoting a Secure Digital Future
Through this initiative, Meta and PTA reaffirm their joint commitment to building a secure, inclusive, and digitally literate online space. By raising awareness and equipping users with the tools to identify fraud, the “Is This Legit?” campaign marks another step toward a safer digital future for Pakistan.
