Modi Govt Blocks Reuters’ Social Media Amid Global Backlash

Modi

In a move raising global concerns over press freedom, the Modi-led government has reportedly blocked both the central and global X (formerly Twitter) accounts of international news giant Reuters in India.

Users trying to access the Reuters or Reuters World accounts within India are now met with a message stating that the content has been withheld due to a legal demand. This action, while not officially acknowledged, has sparked intense criticism online.

The restrictions follow the alleged failure of “Operation Sindoor,” after which the Indian government is said to have initiated a crackdown on various international social media accounts. These include Pakistani media platforms and prominent influencers.

Critics argue this signals an alarming pattern of digital censorship under the current administration, particularly targeting voices perceived as critical of the Indian government.
