Musk Won’t Withdraw $97B OpenAI Bid Unless Profit Shift Stops

Elon Musk has refused to retract his $97.4 billion bid for OpenAI unless CEO Sam Altman halts the company’s transition into a for-profit entity. Musk’s legal team stated that he would drop the offer if OpenAI preserves its original nonprofit mission.

The conflict stems from OpenAI’s shift to a hybrid model in 2019, allowing profit-driven investments. Recent plans to convert into a public benefit corporation have intensified tensions between Musk and Altman, who previously co-founded OpenAI. Altman has dismissed Musk’s bid, calling him insecure, while Musk labeled Altman a “swindler.”
