Niantic Eyes $3.5 Billion Sale of Pokémon Go Business to Saudi-Owned Scopely

Niantic Inc., the developer of Pokémon Go, is in talks to sell its video-game division to Scopely Inc., a mobile gaming firm owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. The deal, reportedly valued at around $3.5 billion, could be finalized in the coming weeks, and would include the Pokémon Go franchise along with other Niantic mobile games.

Since its massive success with Pokémon Go in 2016, Niantic has struggled to replicate the same level of achievement and has faced financial setbacks in recent years, resulting in staff cuts and canceled projects. Scopely, owned by Savvy Games Group, aims to strengthen its mobile gaming portfolio through this acquisition.

The deal reflects Saudi Arabia’s expanding presence in the global gaming industry as part of its economic diversification strategy.
