OpenAI has officially dropped its controversial plan to become a for-profit company, choosing instead to stick to its original nonprofit structure.

CEO Sam Altman confirmed the move in a company-wide email, citing pressure from civic leaders, AI safety advocates, and legal consultations with California and Delaware authorities.
