Pakistan Hits Back at Microsoft Exit Rumors, Calls Indian Reports False

Microsoft

The Pakistani government has strongly rejected claims that Microsoft has shut down operations in the country, calling recent Indian media reports misleading and baseless. The Ministry of IT clarified that Microsoft never had a full-fledged office in Pakistan, only a liaison setup, and its commercial activities were always managed from Ireland.

In an official statement, the ministry said the changes in Microsoft’s local presence are part of a broader global “Workforce Optimization Program” and not a targeted withdrawal from Pakistan. It emphasized that Microsoft’s commitment to Pakistani clients and partnerships remains unchanged.

Contrary to reports, Microsoft confirmed it would continue to serve the Pakistani market via regional offices and resellers. The company assured that service quality would remain unaffected, as it uses this model successfully in several countries.

Only a few local positions were impacted by the change, as Microsoft had no engineering units in Pakistan. The move comes amidst global restructuring, with the company laying off nearly 9,000 employees worldwide. Meanwhile, Pakistan still plans to offer global IT certifications, including Microsoft’s, to boost youth employment in the tech sector.
