Pakistan Reserves 2,000MW Electricity for Crypto and AI Growth

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has announced the allocation of 2,000 megawatts of electricity for Bitcoin mining and AI data centres, marking Pakistan’s first major push toward a digital economy.

The initiative aims to utilize surplus electricity for high-performance computing, attracting global investors, generating jobs, and boosting national income. Aurangzeb emphasized, “This is about shaping a digital future.”

The Pakistan Crypto Council confirmed growing international interest, with CEO Bilal Bin Saqib noting Pakistan’s leadership potential in the crypto space, supported by nearly 40 million digital asset users.

The government is expected to offer tax breaks and customs relief to encourage investment, with plans for renewable energy-powered data centres in future phases. The arrival of the Africa-2 submarine cable will further enhance connectivity vital for AI and blockchain operations.
