Telecom Boost: Pakistan To Auction 600 MHz Spectrum Soon

Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima announced that the Pakistan government will auction 600 MHz of spectrum next month. The move aims to improve internet speed and reliability across the country.

Speaking at an event in Islamabad, the minister said the cabinet has approved the spectrum auction. She explained that releasing 600 MHz of spectrum will not only enhance 4G performance but also support the rollout of 5G services in Pakistan.

Shaza Fatima emphasized the governmentโ€™s commitment to investing in youth capacity building. Over the past 18 months, more than half a million young people have been trained in various digital skills. She described the youth as the nationโ€™s greatest asset and said their development is crucial for Pakistanโ€™s digital transformation.

The minister also highlighted IT exports, which have surpassed $3.8 billion this year, growing at an average rate of 20%. She stressed that improving internet infrastructure and spectrum availability will further boost economic growth and technological innovation.

Under the Connect 2030 Vision, Pakistan plans to raise average internet speeds to 100 Mbps, expand fiber connectivity, free up a total of 1,000 MHz of spectrum, and align 5G rollout with international standards. These measures are expected to bring billions of dollars in economic benefits over the next four years.

Shaza Fatima also noted recent policy reforms, including the Digital Nation Pakistan Act and Right-of-Way adjustments. These steps have eliminated fees for fiber deployment nationwide, encouraging private investment in broadband expansion.

By auctioning 600 MHz of spectrum, Pakistan aims to strengthen its digital infrastructure, provide faster and more reliable internet, and accelerate the countryโ€™s transition to fully digitized governance.

The minister concluded by underlining the importance of continued policy support and technological innovation to ensure Pakistan keeps pace with global advancements in connectivity and digital services.
