The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released a new report on monthly internet data consumption, highlighting a steady rise in digital usage across the country. The report, titled State of Mobile 2024, reveals that the average monthly internet data usage per person in Pakistan has reached 8.4 GB.
According to the new report on monthly internet trends, this represents a 13.5 percent increase compared to the previous year. Over the last four years, the average data consumption has grown by 71 percent — from 4.9 GB in 2020 to 8.4 GB in 2024.
The findings reflect Pakistan’s growing reliance on digital platforms despite ongoing economic challenges. Increased access to smartphones, expanding 4G coverage, and the popularity of social media, video streaming, and remote work tools have all contributed to this growth.
The new report on monthly internet usage also highlights a significant rise in total mobile and broadband data consumption. During Fiscal Year 2024-25, mobile data usage reached 13,002 petabytes, showing a 20 percent increase from the previous year. Fixed broadband usage also expanded by 29 percent, totaling 12,120 petabytes.
Broadband penetration has now reached 57 percent nationwide, a positive indicator of digital progress. However, the PTA noted that only a small portion of users currently have access to fiber networks, which are crucial for ensuring stable and high-speed connections.
The report also sheds light on pricing trends. The average cost of mobile data per GB was Rs26.6 in FY2024, marking a 4.3 percent increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) for mobile services rose to Rs276 per month.
Overall, the PTA’s latest findings underscore Pakistan’s growing digital footprint and the urgent need to expand network infrastructure to sustain this momentum.
