Reddit is preparing to introduce paywalls for some of its online communities in 2025, as confirmed by CEO Steve Huffman during a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) session. The platform plans to allow certain subreddits to become “paid communities,” offering exclusive content to paying members.
While the pricing and eligibility criteria for paid subreddits remain unclear, these paid spaces will provide creators with an opportunity to monetize their content. Huffman also teased a new AI feature that will summarize search results and lay the foundation for a Reddit marketplace.

The move is part of Reddit’s strategy to diversify its revenue streams, following trends seen on platforms like X and Discord. Despite facing challenges, including a net loss of $484.3 million in 2024, Huffman is optimistic that these new initiatives will help Reddit continue its growth.
With over 100 million daily active users, Reddit aims to remain a community-driven platform, even as it explores new ways to ensure its long-term success.
