TikTok is rolling out new features that allow users to control how much AI-generated content appears in their โFor Youโ feed. The app is also improving technologies to label AI content more accurately.
The new AI content control is part of TikTokโs โManage Topicsโ tool, which lets users adjust the frequency of posts from different categories. TikTok explained that the setting helps users customize their feed rather than removing AI-generated content entirely. Users can choose to see more or less AI content depending on their preference.
TikTok is following a trend seen in other platforms like Meta and OpenAI. Meta recently launched โVibes,โ a feed for AI-generated videos, while OpenAI introduced โSora,โ a platform focused on AI video content. On TikTok, users have already been creating AI-based visuals for topics such as history, celebrities, and creative storytelling.
To use the new feature, TikTok users can navigate to Settings > Content Preferences > Manage Topics. There, a slider allows users to adjust the volume of AI-generated content in their For You feed. The update will roll out in the coming weeks.
TikTok is also introducing โinvisible watermarksโ to enhance the labeling of AI-generated content. The platform already uses C2PAโs Content Credentials, which embed metadata to mark AI content. However, these labels can be removed when content is reuploaded or edited elsewhere. Invisible watermarks add an extra layer of security by making the labels readable only to the intended recipient.
The watermarks will be applied to AI content created with TikTok tools such as AI Editor Pro, as well as content uploaded using C2PA credentials. This ensures more reliable identification of AI-generated media.
In addition, TikTok announced a $2 million AI literacy fund to support organizations, including Girls Who Code, in creating content focused on AI safety and education. The initiative aligns with TikTokโs broader efforts to promote responsible use of AI on its platform.
These updates reinforce TikTokโs commitment to user control, AI transparency, and safe content discovery while providing more options for personalizing the social media experience.
