WhatsApp is testing a new feature to improve status privacy for users. The update, spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.2.9, focuses on making it easier to manage the audience of status updates.
The feature appears within the status privacy settings. Users can now check who can view their update, confirm the selected privacy option, and see whether others can reshare the post. This gives users more control and transparency over their content.
Currently, WhatsApp does not offer a direct way to confirm the audience for a live status. Users often rely on memory or delete posts if unsure about who can see them. The new tool addresses this problem, providing a clear summary of privacy settings for each update.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature is accessible via the viewer’s menu on any active status within the 24-hour window. A new “Audience” section shows a summary page with detailed information on visibility.
At the top, WhatsApp clearly labels who can see the status. If the update is visible to all saved contacts, it shows “My Contacts.” If restrictions are applied, it displays “My Contacts Except” or “Only share with.” The feature also lists the specific contacts included or excluded.
This is particularly useful for users who want to share updates with different groups, such as family, friends, or colleagues. It ensures the audience is accurately selected, reducing mistakes and confusion.
By giving users better visibility and control, this beta feature eliminates the need to delete and repost statuses. WhatsApp aims to make managing privacy settings simpler, giving users confidence about who sees their content.
The feature is currently in beta and may be rolled out to all users soon. Once available, it promises a smoother and more transparent experience for anyone posting status updates.
