WhatsApp Users Could Soon Hit New Message Limit; Full Details Here

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is rolling out measures to curb spam by limiting messages to contacts who haven’t responded. The change comes as WhatsApp expands beyond personal chats into groups, communities, and business communications, leading to crowded inboxes.

Under the new system, messages sent to new contacts will count toward a monthly limit unless the recipient replies. WhatsApp has not disclosed the exact limit yet, as it is testing different thresholds. Users and businesses approaching the cap will see a pop-up alert showing the remaining messages, preventing accidental blocking.

WhatsApp clarified that regular users are unlikely to reach these limits. The rules primarily target businesses and individuals sending mass messages without responses. This step is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to maintain a cleaner and safer messaging environment.

Over the past year, WhatsApp has introduced several anti-spam measures. These include monthly limits on business marketing messages and giving users the ability to unsubscribe from marketing notifications. Earlier in 2025, WhatsApp also tested limits on broadcast messages for both individuals and businesses.

The platform’s new experiment is planned to expand to multiple countries, including India, which hosts over 500 million WhatsApp users. Experts say the limits could help reduce spam significantly, improving user experience without affecting normal conversations.

WhatsApp continues to balance growth and user safety, as the platform increasingly serves both personal and business communication needs. By introducing these message restrictions, WhatsApp aims to prevent inbox flooding and maintain trust among its vast user base.

This move highlights WhatsApp’s ongoing commitment to combat spam while allowing businesses to communicate responsibly. Users can expect gradual implementation as testing expands and feedback is collected from global markets.
