Meta is working on a major update that could change how users view WhatsApp Status updates. The new feature is being tested in the latest beta versions of the app. It aims to make WhatsApp Status more visible inside the main chat screen.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, the feature has been spotted in TestFlight builds. It is not yet available for public use. However, early details show a redesigned layout for status updates.
The update may introduce a top carousel inside the Chats tab. This will allow users to see WhatsApp Status updates from their contacts directly in the chat list. It is designed to improve visibility and engagement.
Unlike current placement, the tray will not appear automatically. Users will need to pull down from the top of the chat list. This interaction will reveal the WhatsApp Status section in a similar way to Telegramโs interface.
The new design is expected to look similar to Instagram Stories. A shortcut will appear first for posting new status updates. After that, users will see updates from their contacts in a horizontal carousel.
Another key feature is smart ranking. The system will prioritize contacts based on user interaction. This means frequently contacted people will appear first in the WhatsApp Status feed.
At the end of the tray, users will also find muted or hidden updates. This ensures all content remains accessible without overcrowding the main view.
Like Instagram Stories, WhatsApp Status updates will still disappear after 24 hours. Users will continue to use tools such as stickers, text, and music in their posts.
The update is currently in development for both iOS and Android. Meta has not announced an official release date yet. However, the testing phase suggests a wider rollout may happen soon.
The goal of this redesign is to increase user engagement. By integrating WhatsApp Status into the Chats tab, Meta hopes to make the feature more active and easier to access.
